Cedar Point (Sandusky, OH)

Coaster Enthusiasts: For those of you that have never heard of this amusement park, I’ll give you a few seconds to crawl from underneath of that rock you’ve been under. I’m just kidding. But seriously, this is a park that you HAVE to visit! Cedar Point has literally earned the title “The Roller Coaster Capital of the World. And it makes complete sense because it’s a home to coasters that have broken numerous world records during their debuts. That includes one coaster that is literally the Second Tallest Coaster in the World! Stick around to find out which coaster I’m talking about!

Just like other parks, this one isn’t just about the roller coasters (though that IS a huge reason why so many come here). There are many things for everybody. From amazing shows, to capivating thrill rides, to delicious dining experiences, Cedar Point is not one to miss!

Some of the World’s Best Roller Coasters

Cedar Point, “The Roller Coaster Capital of the World,” is home to 18 Exciting Roller Coasters. These range from coasters for family and kids to adrenaline-seeking daredevils.

Kiddie/Family Coasters

Kids will love Cedar Point’s Wilderness Run Coaster. This is a 19-foot junior (kiddie) coaster specially designed for little kids who aren’t quite ready for the big rides. And of course, their parents can even go for a ride.

Woodstock Express is another goodie for kids and families. It’s a train-style coaster themed after “The Peanuts” franchise. It offers slightly more of a thrill than Wilderness Run, with a height of 38 feet and maximum speed of 25 mph.

Personally, these are coasters that I never got a chance to ride during my two-day visit, but then again, I was 17 years old. Obviously, ANYBODY can ride those coasters, but there were more thrilling rides that caught my attention. Which ones you say? Read on!

The “Big” Coasters

During my visit to Cedar Point, I rode nearly every major roller coaster in the park. Reminder, these are record breaking roller coasters during the times of their debut. I’m gonna focus on my two favorites.

The first of my favorite roller coasters in the park is Top Thrill Dragster. Theme after cars designed for drag racing, this is a 420-foot launch coaster (the second tallest roller coaster in the world) that will almost guarantee you to see your life flash before your eyes in about 17 seconds. You’ll hold on to your seat you race through the track accelerating to speeds up to 120 mph in just 3.8 seconds. Insane, right?

The second coaster I’d like to talk about is another very tall coaster and literally goes head-to-head with Top Thrill Dragster (and maybe even Steel Vengeance; which I’ll get to later) for the best coaster in the park. It’s the 310-foot tall Millennium Force. Imagine climbing a lift-hill in a coaster train with no side railing, with nothing restraining you, but a seemingly tiny lap bar. That’s pretty much how the ride starts. Hope I’m not scaring anybody. Because things get even better after a 300-foot drop at 93 mph! You’ll then go through a series of hills and nearly inverted over-banked turns. All in about two and a half minutes. Guys, this is a coaster you don’t wanna miss! Especially all of you coaster enthusiasts out there!

Now I know I said I wanted to talk about two major coasters in the park, but there’s one more ride that I feel I MUST tell you about. It’s the park’s newest roller coaster called Steel Vengeance. This is a hybrid coaster (opened in 2018) that pays homage to the defunct 161-foot tall wooden coaster Mean Streak. Steel Vengeance is even bigger, faster, and more intense than its predecessor. At a staggering 205-feet, it’s a coaster that can compete with any in the park. When I get my chance to visit the park again, this coaster will be on my bucket list!

Amazing Thrill Rides

Just like most theme parks, Cedar Point also has rides that can easily be found at any fair or carnival. We’re talking about rides such as carousels, scramblers, and pendulum pirate ships. Rides designed pretty much for everybody (granted they meet the height requirements of course). But there are a couple rides that caught not only my attention, but the attention of hundreds of thousands of park goers every single year.

Imagine a ride that moves like your typical pirate ship ride, but rotates its riders like a scrambler. Reaching a maximum height of 140 feet and swinging at speeds up to 70 mph. What’s even cooler is that this is only one of two of its kind in the entire country (the other model being in Kings Island). This Insane Ride is called MaxAir. And in my opinion, it’s The Perfect Name!

Now imagine another Amazing Pendulum Ride. This time, it’s one that takes your average swing set and jacks the intensity and height levels WAY up! This swing is definitely for the “Big Kids” (and the little ones that meet the height requirement and are BRAVE ENOUGH)! The ride is called SkyHawk. Perfectly named because the sky is all your gonna see when you get on this thing. Hold on tight to your restraints as you swing up to about 120+ feet in the air at speeds approaching 65 mph. Amazing Ride! A swing I would probably get on every day!

Entertaining Shows

Need to catch your breath from screaming on all those rides? Cedar Point has got you covered. Check out their Awesome Shows featuring some talented singer, musicians, and dancers. Show themes range include The Old West, Broadway, and even The Peanuts! Something that I never got a chance to experience on my visit, but would definitely love to one day (especially considering the fact that I’m a musician myself).

Get Your Grub On!

Cedar Point has tons of dining options for their visitors (be sure you eat AFTER the rides of course). Whether you’re a fan of classic burgers and fries. Or chicken and ribs served directly from the barbecue. You also can’t beat some awesome fresh seafood. So many different restaurants to choose from.

During my visit, I went to this really cool retro-style diner called Johnny Rockets. Ordered a delicious cheeseburger and fries and even recall having a vanilla shake. Even though it was a simple meal, it was one of the best lunches I’ve had from any theme park.
