Something truly amazing that I love is a song about how amazing God is. And the song is simply called “Amazing.” Written by Bishop Hezekiah Walker, “Amazing” is featured on the 2013 album Azusa The Next Generation. It’s also considered one of Walker’s most popular songs. By listening to this song, not only will you witness why he’s a Grammy Award-Winning pastor, but also just how great our Lord and Savior is!
How did I fall in love with this song??
Even though the song came out in 2013, my first encounter with the song actually came a few months ago. My church’s choir director sang this song for the service’s ‘praise and worship’ selection. Like many churches in the country, my church’s services are virtual. We broadcast our services live from our church with a very limited amount of people present. The only ones there are members of our virtual worship team. I am one of those people that operates the soundboard for both the church and the livestream to all of our platforms.
So like I was saying, our church’s choir director sang this as a solo. I fell in love instantly with the song. Right after she sang the song, I pulled out my Spotify playlist and added it. From that day on, I’ve listened to the song on a weekly (and sometime daily) basis. Everything about it is so uplifting!
Covering the song…
I had been so obsessed with the song, that I made a vow to myself that I would do a cover of it. As a solo saxophone player, I knew it was going to be a little more difficult to pull off effectively. For starters, I don’t have the benefit of having sung lyrics. Also, the beginning of the song is basically a call and response. In the recording, the lead singer sings lines “It’s so amazing” and “your love for me,” with the choir echoing her. My church’s choir director was able to pull this off with a backing track and backup vocals. I know what some of you may be thinking. “J, you still could pull it off.” “It’ll still work.” Technically, you’d be right, but I wasn’t 100% convinced. And that’s when I decided to do another multitrack cover.
Some of you may already know that I’ve already done another multitrack saxophone cover. For those that don’t, CLICK HERE to check it out! I knew it was going to be a lot of work. Yet, I knew it would also be a lot of fun and was looking forward to it! When I had the time, I got out my saxophone, grabbed my Blue Snowball USB mic, set up my laptop, and hit the record button.
